Futuro do Presente

The futuro do presente (simple future) expresses actions that will happen, predictions, and suppositions about the present. Formed by adding -ei, -ás, -á, -emos, -ão to the infinitive, this tense is straightforward with only three irregular verbs: fazer (farei), dizer (direi), and trazer (trarei). While common in written Portuguese and formal speech, everyday conversation often substitutes "ir + infinitive" ("Vou falar" instead of "Falarei"). The simple future also expresses probability: "Ele terá uns 30 anos" (He must be about 30 years old). This tense is essential for formal writing, news reporting, and expressing certainty about future events.
